75 + Projects
We did it!

As 2023 came to an end, a very happy new year to all! Last year was the 75 th anniversary of the iconic ship HMTS Windrush landing in Tilbury docks. We hoped to have started a movement to match this. But see below we are thrilled to report our Missionpossible75 project has far exceeded expectations.

Our ‘Possible’ goals are dedicated to Nelson Mandela. But we are delighted to congratulate Audley English FRSA, our lead in construction to be one of only two architects to be recognised in King Charles lll 2024 Honours List of 1,227 people. Honours celebrate the contributions to society, community and their areas of employment.  Audley is the UK’s first West Indian architect (born in Jamaica), a  Windrush child and it is with excitement we know what this year will bring to him and our networks.

Our 2023 achievements:

1.Launched in October as a social movement ‘Global South Fellows (GSF) of the RSA (The Royal Society for the Arts) will Re-right history’. Nelson Mandea was a Fellow.  The RSA has “over 260 year’s history of encouraging the arts, manufacturers, and commerce to work together to turn world-leading ideas into world-changing actions. 30,000 Fellows live or work in 80 countries so we could potentially create a global network of creativity and action.  We look forward to recognition and support from the RSA senior management, and meetings supported by Central.

2. Rani Moorcroft MBE FRSA  brought together British Black African, Caribbean, Asian Fellows and supporters in this first collaborative of Global South Fellows and supporters. We will celebrate our contribution to the UK, and also the world. We will ensure history reflects the many who came before us and look forward to the future of many that will come after.  We shall add even more to the success of diversity, inclusion in many walks of life in Great Britain sadly sometimes overlooked.  We agree with the mission statement of our Society: “Our proven change process, rigorous research, innovative ideas platforms and unique global network of changemakers, work collectively to enable people, places and the planet to flourish in harmony.”

3.So we will also address the continuing areas of underachievement or over representation in our society in the number of black children expelled or excluded in schools. Also the significantly higher numbers entering the justice system introducing educational programmes and inspirational leadership among this vulnerable group. We have Professors in leading universities, schools, heads of government departments who will create momentum building on existing foundations.

4.In health, especially cancer where more black people are prone to some of the deadliest cancers, we will help overcome disparity, devise specific outreach groups and ease of access to clinical trials for early detection and cures. In the arts, entertainment and sports we will engage with role models. And in construction we will join builders such as the Church of England, sympathetic under-achieving councils to build l those safe, sustainable, stable, sociable and satisfying communities every child or adult should live in to flourish and be happy.

5.Finally we will put the natural world at the centre of our actions. We will work closely with the National Trust and appoint young passionate ambassadors to help deliver active projects in schools, FE colleges, PRUs universities. For it is the wanton actions, sadly,  of mostly the industrial nations that have created the climate change damage that Global South people, especially island or coastal dwellers who have to suffer disproportionately from the floods, drought, fires, loss of biodiversity that are leading to famine and civic unrest and wars. We will support the ICE, Institute of Civil  Engineers and their President Professor Anusha Shah. She is the very first woman of colour, one of only three women before her, and the first Muslim to hold this prestigious title.  Nature-based solutions to climate change etc. resonate with all we are trying to do.  Some of her Future Leaders have joined us, as have members of the National  Trust .

6. Audley English MBE FRSA Build-eco founder is working with Daniel Pillai co-founder and chairman BIPVco helping deliver a state-of-the art net zero solar-energy generating 6th form college in Jamaica. The first in the Caribbean, it will slash energy bills and create excitement in new technologies.  Professor Dr Nira Chamberlain acknowledged as the World’s most interesting mathematician will help these Jamaican students advance knowledge. And other Windrush ‘children’ have agreed to pay back mums, dads and grandparents for bringing them to the UK, through this project.

Audley is also working towards a collaboration with David Clare CEO of Habitat for Humanity to create homes for looked after children leaving care in empty spaces above retail units in high streets. This has the capacity to plug the hole in the housing crisis speedily and with the greatest social impact of vulnerable children aged 16 plus..

7. Dr. Jak Beula (NubianJak) has created an iconic memorial seat made of planks from Tilbury Dock Essex where the Windrush generation first stepped foot on land on 22 June 1948. The seat is in the image of HMTS Windrush supported by legs representing the world-famous anchor. And has crystal portals to signify the Diamond jubilee of Windrush. Jak is a leader in Black history and   has almost reached the target of 100 commemorative plaques to celebrate people of colour and their achievements and appeared regularly on tv news programmes. Millie Small, singer of  ‘My boy Lollipop’ was particularly well covered. Her daughter has kindly allowed us to use it as our signature song.

8.  Rev Michael King, son of pioneer Windrush hero Sam King was chosen to represent his father and all who came to aid the ‘mother country’ rebuild after the war at the British Legion Festival of Remembrance see www.britishlegion.org.uk . Taking place at the Royal national Armistice Event on 11 November in front of the King, Queen, Royal family, Prime Minister cabinet and politicians. and dignitaries at the Royal Albert Hall. Beamed by the BBC live tio millions.

9. London school children aged 9-16 will write a short essay, and other art works such as poets and paintings how they will honour Nelson Mandela in actions in their own lives. The best will be collected and published with sales proceeds used to inspire children in the UK and globally creating a better, more humane and caring generation.

10. Professor David Tann Vice Provost University of East London will host the launch at a premier event at the University campus for 150  children in 2024: after that, this programme will be opened across the UK.
